Veteran Survivors of Childhood Abuse
Support Groups/Communities:
Adult Children of Alcoholics & Dysfunctional Families:
ACA is a 12 Step program that focuses on emotional sobriety. We were all profoundly affected by the dysfunction in our families of origin, whether alcohol was present in the home or not. Consequently, we developed a set of “laundry list” traits that helped us survive that experience. These traits may have been adaptive at the time, but have now come to substantially disrupt our lives.
Adult Survivors of Child Abuse (ASCA) :
ASCA is an innovative and effective support program designed specifically for adult survivors of physical, sexual, or emotional child abuse or neglect. The program was designed to support and assist survivors of child abuse, irrespective of their financial situation, in moving on with their lives.
Survivors of Incest Anonymous (SIA) for Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse:
SIA, started in 1982, is a 12-Step, self-help recovery program modeled after Alcoholics Anonymous. There are no dues or fees. Confidentiality and anonymity are essential to our program. SIA is for men and women, 18 years and older, who were sexually abused as children. You will not be rejected because you think your abuse was “too horrible,” or you think your abuse wasn’t “bad enough to count.
MaleSurvivor:
MaleSurvivor is dedicated to providing personalized support for men at every stage of the healing process. We facilitate dialogue among survivors, as well as between survivors and professional therapists, on our online support forums like a vibrant and moderated Support Forum, online 24/7 chat and at in-person events.
CPTSD Foundation:
Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD) describes the results of ongoing, inescapable, relational trauma. Unlike Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Complex PTSD always involves being hurt by another person. These hurts are ongoing, repeated, and often involving a betrayal and loss of safety. Adult survivors of complex trauma often experience amnesia, alienation, chronic mistrust, chronic physical pain, re-victimization, debilitating flashbacks, nightmares, body memories, anxiety, dissociation, trouble with regulating volatile emotions, severe depression, toxic shame, auto-immune disease, along with other deeply distressing and potentially life-altering symptoms.
